Happy Birthday to me! Last year on my birthday I decided to take on a photo 365 project. It actually turned into a 366 project because I forgot it was a leap year. I wanted to force myself to take a picture every day so I would think about and practice my hobby of photography. When I first started the project I didn’t think about posting my pictures to a blog. I wanted an easy way for my mum and sister to see what I was up to so I started this photo blog. I had no idea how big the blogosphere was. I’ve met and read about some really incredible, talented, funny people. It’s a wonderful community. I have never received a rude or creepy comment – all comments were encouraging and heartwarming. It’s kind of neat to know that someone from next door or on the other side of the planet can take a peek into my daily life. I’ve bored people to death with my dog and cat pictures – I’m sorry for that but my furry creatures are more patient than people to photograph. I’ve learned a bit more about photography and have met some incredible photographers that I aspire to be like. This project worked – I did pick up a camera every day this past year and I also thought about and explored my photography hobby.
Now that the 365/66 project is complete I’m not putting down my camera. I’ll still take pictures, read and learn more about photography and hopefully will continue to get better. I’ll post my photos here from time to time but I’ll try to only put up my favorites and not bore people to death with pet and food pictures.
Thanks everyone for your support, comments and likes this past year. It’s been a fun challenge.
The Looneyspoons Collection is my favorite cookbook. It has hundreds of healthy, easy to prepare dishes with most ingredients found in the regular grocery store. It’s my go-to recipe book when I want something fast, delicious and easy as pie. The book is filled with a ton of humour and piles of health tips. It sounds like I’m trying to sell this book, but honestly I’m not related nor have I ever met the authors (sisters Janet & Greta Podleski). I’ve been told they have a program on the Food Network but I’ve never seen that channel. You can check them out at http://www.janetandgreta.com/the-sisters.
Tonight we had one of our favorites – Thai Beau. It’s a Thai coconut chicken with mango and basil. It’s so simple to prepare and totally scrumptious! I meant to take a picture before we started eating but we just couldn’t wait. There’s a little left-over for lunch tomorrow.
Tomorrow is my birthday which means it’s the end of my Project 365. I wonder what I shall take a picture of? Suggestions?
The ‘Les Yeux’ mural at the University of Ottawa recently received a facelift. It was originally pained in 1972 by well-known Ottawa artist James Boyd.
I remember seeing these eyes as a kid skating along the Rideau Canal. The mural used to creep me out because the eyes appear to follow you.
Cats are always trying to find the light.
I stopped by my parents house after work so I could put out their garbage. While there I grabbed a few shots of my mum’s sedum plants. I love these plants because they’re so easy to care for, they spread beautifully and they look so lovely this time of year.
Today is World Suicide Prevention Day. The National Inuit Youth Council held their 6th Annual Inuit Celebration of Life event to recognize this special day. The event was held on the front steps of Parliament Hill. Unfortunately, Inuit suicide statistics are very bleak. Suicide rates among children and teens in the Inuit community is 30 times higher than the rest of Canada. Inuit are working to raise awareness, increase support and promote the “Celebration of Life” campaign.
Stella had her first fly-ball class today. She was not too happy about being there. She wanted to hide under my chair the entire class. I couldn’t even distract her with a tennis ball. We’ll try again next week.
Ryan works most weekends. Today was a special treat since he didn’t have to work. I still got him out of bed early because he wanted to come to the gym with me. Ryan prepared his favorite specialty for brunch – BACON.
This fluffy cat, Stanley, lives around the corner from me. He’s such a happy, cuddly guy who’s favorite thing is food. I should have brought him some BACON.
I pass this message every day on my way to the coffee shop. It always makes me smile.
I love watching the cats clean themselves. They’re fastidious about their personal hygiene. Alfie, our orange cat, also likes cleaning the other two cats. He acts like a typical middle “child”.
I’m still trying to take indoor shots without a flash. Unfortunately, it’s hard to stop motion when the aperture is at f1.8. I’ll keep trying different settings. Practice, practice, and experiment some more….
